DESCRIERE Safe and accurate preoperative diagnosis of breast lesions is crucial to spare patients unnecessary, disfiguring operations. Prenoeoplasia of the Breast covers the clinical, radiological and histological diagnosis of benign proliferative breast disease and precursor lesions of breast cancer. It focuses on a new immunohistochemical method based on an innovative progenitor cell concept of breast epithelium that has been developed by Prof. Boecker, Prof. Schnitt and Prof. Silverstein. This technique can also be used for small samples (percutaneous core biopsy) and offers high specificity, and therefore provides a greater degree of diagnostic security. The practical applicability and interpretation of the technique are integrated into a comprehensive description of all benign and malignant noninvasive proliferative diseases of the breast, including: • Interpretation of histologic samples attained by stereotactic biopsy (including immunohistochemistry) • Comparison of radiologic and pathologic findings • Action to be taken in the case of in-situ malignoma • Treatment of DICS Table of Contents Chapter 1: Normal breast Chapter 2: Fibrocystic change and miscellaneous ";non-neoplastic"; epithelial and stromal lesion Chapter 3: Metaplastic changes and their neoplastic counterparts Chapter 4: Percutaneous breast biopsy Chapter 5: Non-operative breast pathology Chapter 6: Examination of surgical specimens Chapter 7: Basic principles of benign proliferative breast disease Chapter 8: Usual ductal hyperplasia Chapter 9: Sclerosing adenosis and other forms of adenosis Chapter 10: Radial scar Chapter 11: Papilloma Chapter 12: Tubular adenoma and variants Chapter 13: Adenoma of the nipple Chapter 14: Adenomyoepithelial tumors Chapter 15: Fibroadenoma and phyllodes tumor Chapter 16: Inflammatory conditions of the breast Chapter 17: Basic principles of precursor lesions of breast cancer Chapter 18: Flat epithelial atypia Chapter 19: Atypical ductal hyperplasia Chapter 20: Ductal carcinoma in situ Chapter 21: Lobular neoplasia Chapter 22: The cytology of preneoplastic disease Chapter 23: Hormonal and genetic risk factors Chapter 24: Treatment for patients with ductal carcinoma in situ Chapter 25: Risk adapted therapy of ductal carcinoma in situ Chapter 26: Molecular concept of breast carcinogenesis Chapter 27: EGF receptors in breast tumors OPINIA CITITORILOR
